BRIGGS, SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND SCARCE ORNATE GEORGIAN GOLD & PEARL STRAIGHT RAZOR SET, c. 5 ¾ RAZOR, 4 1/8 hollow ground straight razor blade, with dish point, pronounced false edge on the spine, with fluted tang. The blades are full, no evidence of sharpening, some light spots of patina/pitting. The blades look better in person, than in the photos. Beautiful scalloped and carved premium colorful pearl scales, no cracks or chips, with gold clamshell bolsters, over chased and file worked spacers. Beautiful box, with anchor scrimshaw on the front, with purple velvet interior. End pieces are missing at both ends of the box, but this is not visible from the front or the back views, so the flaws at the ends are not distracting at all. Scarce outstanding early set! This is a gold and silver beautiful butterfly brooch from the mid victorian period. The butterfly plays host to 4 seed pearls, 2 sapphires, 8 rubies and an array of rose cut diamonds. The coloured stones are set in yellow gold and the diamonds are silver set to enhance there sparkle. The rubies are a deep red and the blue sapphires have a medium hue. There is also a safety pin for reassurance when wearing. The clip at the back of the brooch unscrews allowing you to use it as a pendant, we are unsure exactly how but would say you put a chain through the antenna section.
