Antique OSTBY & BARTON 14K White Gold Pearl Solitaire Pearl Ring High Setting. This lovely 14K white gold pearl ring is by Ostby & Barton. In 1879 Engelhart Ostby formed a partnership with Nathan Barton. The firm became the world’s largest producer of gold rings. In 1912 he decided to return from one of his many European trips on the Titanic, carrying with him his old doctor’s bag he always used when travelling, filled with gems, precious stones, and other valuables that he had bought in Paris. Unfortunately, he never made it back, as he went down with the Titanic. The business continued into the 1950s. The pearl is set in a high setting with six prongs. The white gold setting is beautifully engraved on the top, bottom, and sides. The sides show a wheat pattern, which was popular during the Edwardian period and early 1920s.
