14K Gold Victorian Art Nouveau Faux Tortoise Shell Pearl Motif Hair Comb Set

For your consideration, this lovely antique 14K gold Victorian Art Nouveau faux tortoise shell pearl motif hair comb set. These combs were masterfully created. The 14k gold work is topped with graduated seed pearls giving the combs a regal look. This comb was made from celluloid (plastic) which was a popular way to create these combs after the mid 1800’s. Combs are in very good overall condition, with all seed pearls present. One tooth is broken off one of the smaller combs. CHRISTIAN DIOR 1964 GROSSE Germany Faux Pearls Gold Plated Flowers Demi-Parure

Please read the description take a look at the pictures, as I may unintentionally omit something from the written description. Also take a look at the item details as they are part of the description as well. I have tried to show pictures from every angle so you can assess the condition, for yourself. For your consideration CHRISTIAN DIOR 1964. Haute Couture Demi-Parure by German Jewelry makers Henkel & Grossé. The designers Henkel and Grossé produced jewelry for Christian Dior in the late1950s to early1960. This company was eventually acquired. Each earring has a single faux white pearl, 12 mm, while the brooch has a single black and a white pearl each 12mm. All pieces of the set are signed on a cartouche on the underside GROSS. 1964 GERMANY The set is beautiful to see and handle and it is MEGA RARE!!! East Side Manhattan many years ago while l was at Fashion Design School at Parsons. It is part of my fashion designer accessory and vintage jewelry collection. Earrings 1 ¼ in diameter. X 2W at widest points. Overall condition is excellent for their age. The faux pearls in each earring is in excellent condition no nicks, stripping or peeling. Plated metal is slightly tarnished. On the underside of the earrings in particular, with a bit of wear and patina. The earrings fit snug with a bit of pinch. The faux pearls of the brooch are also in excellent condition. The gold plating is shiny and clean with slight wear noticeable only on magnification. The pin on the brooch is straight, sharp, sturdy and fits into a latch which locks securely. The clip backs on the earrings fit snug. The exquisite finish of both pieces of jewelry give them the look and feel of real gold and pearls and contributes to the overall exceptional preserved condition of this set. Highly collectible beautiful to see and wear. Will accessorizes perfectly with almost any outfit. This item is a part of my personal collection being disposed of. It was stored in a dry smoke-free and pet-free environment. Most of the items I sell are vintage, and/or they are pre-owned, most are not new. Colors may differ slightly in computers. The estate claimed that the owner told them that it was authentic! The have minor scuffs/scratches, They have been cleaned recently (soapy water and steam cleaned) The necklace charm is marked. None of the other items are marked. The earring cushions were dry rotted and they were removed. Earrings weigh – 21 grams together (10.5 grams each). Charm weighs – 11.8 grams. Victorian hair comb hair pin set Moorish style faux pearl hair accessories

A fine early Victorian comb and hair pin set in the Moorish or Algerian style. CONDITION: good vintage condition with expected wear. SIZE: comb 4 x 5 ins (10 x 13 cm); hairpins 3 ins h (7.5 cm). APPROXIMATE DATE: 1840s 1860s. This attractive type of hair accessory was specifically designed to be worn at the rear of the hairdressing, within or covering the chignon. It is accompanied by two hairpins also decorated with faux pearls to make a matching set. First we have a polished brass hair comb with five graduated tines and a deeply curved heading. A line of faux pearls follows the arc of the heading. Pendant from the extremities of the heading are a series of chains of gilded metal, each having a large oval of faux pearl at the end. In wear the chains hang down over the back hair and shake and tremble when the wearer moves. The matched pair of hair pins each has a globular top with a large faux pearl. The effect of similar ornaments in wear can be seen on the collage illustration. This is a compilation of Algerian style combs drawn from contemporary engravings and photographic portraits of the early to mid Victorian period. This comb is of a type generally called a peigne dAlger or Algerian comb. In the early 1840s the French-Algerian wars led to an interest in Moorish art, and this is strongly reflected in the design of comb headings and hairpins until about 1875. The Crimean War further helped to popularize Turkish and Oriental designs in. During the 1860s and 1970s. This Moorish influence was manifested in the use of pseudo-oriental and Islamic motifs and the use of dangling and curiously shaped pendants, looped chains beads and tassels on combs and hairpins.
