Victorian 9ct Gold Back And Front Pearl & Paste Set Star Locket

A Victorian 9ct gold back and front locket set with paste stones. The locket contains two removable photo frames. Marked 9CT BACK FRONT SILVER SETTING. Back and front lockets are made from 9ct gold on the front and back with some metal parts. The front and back are entirely gold, but the inside rim, the hinge and the removable frames are gold plated silver. This was a very popular way of constructing lockets, gold is quite soft and easily bent, so the silver frame offers a bit more stability. There are a few small dinks to the back, otherwise in good condition, shuts and holds closed well. 2.8 cms (1 1/8 inches) high excluding the top mount x 1.8 cms (3/4 of an inch) wide. The locket is on a new 46 cms (18 inch) 14ct gold filled chain it is pictured on. Gold filled jewellery is much better quality than gold plated, it is made with a thicker layer of gold and won’t tarnish. Superb antique Victorian/Edwardian rose gold (front & back) locket set with beautiful garnets and pearls. Semi frosted finish to the gold. It comes on it’s original antique gold chain. Visually spectacular this is an exceptional example of it’s type. It is good usable condition including good clean interior and both photo rings. Back & front to the reverse. The locket measures 1.5 x 1 ins including decorative gold bale. The unmarked gold chain measures 22.5 ins. A few very light minor dents to the reverse. No UK Friday posting. 9ct gold back and front reinforced heart shaped locket with an applied silver plaque set with seed pearls. The locket is approx 50 years old. This is a very attractive piece of vintage jewellery. It is lightly engraved on the back with the message Rene love John adding a nice historical sentiment to the item. Gold back and front is a sheet of gold which is placed over another metal to give the item additional thickness and strength, both the insides and outside surfaces of the locket are gold.
