RARE Antique Palais Royal French Sewing Box, 18k Gold, Mother of Pearl Tools, Emeralds, c. All items and photos are the express property of Antiques & Uncommon Treasure. I’ve only rarely ever seen a set jeweled in this manner. Nor is it usual to include crochet tambours or tatting shuttle as this set does. There are 2 tambours, each neatly close into themselves and are complete. The tatting shuttle is a navette-shaped item there to the front, and is a lace/crochet-like needlework tool rare to find in these sets. There are 4 silk winders, 3 original stars and one replacement (snowflake). Stiletto, bodkin and needle case complete the set. The thimble is solid 18k gold. All in their perfectly fitted original tray and box. Additionally, box still has working lock and original key. A museum quality set. Given time, one could perhaps find a 4th star. The old original mirror remains in place, as well. Very good to excellent condition for age and type. Over 200 years, fragile set has survived almost completely intact. One replaced star silk winder. The little bas relief medallions with baby Bacchus or putti face have tiny emeralds set in a crown and some of those have been lost to the centuries. Mother of pearl shield cartouche and escutcheon perfectly set into that elegant old burled hardwood chest. Key works the lock and is original, and the box closes tightly.
