BRIGGS, SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND SCARCE ORNATE GEORGIAN GOLD & PEARL STRAIGHT RAZOR SET, c. 5 ¾ RAZOR, 4 1/8 hollow ground straight razor blade, with dish point, pronounced false edge on the spine, with fluted tang. The blades are full, no evidence of sharpening, some light spots of patina/pitting. The blades look better in person, than in the photos. Beautiful scalloped and carved premium colorful pearl scales, no cracks or chips, with gold clamshell bolsters, over chased and file worked spacers. Beautiful box, with anchor scrimshaw on the front, with purple velvet interior. End pieces are missing at both ends of the box, but this is not visible from the front or the back views, so the flaws at the ends are not distracting at all. Scarce outstanding early set! Featuring gorgeous pink Rubies which are enhanced by the lovely white pearls all beautifully set into a fine crown of finely worked scrolled filigree gold. DETAILS: 15ct Yellow Gold 9 Stone Synthetic Ruby and seed Pearl Edwardian bangle. 3 round Rubies square grain set with 6 round Seed Pearls square grain set alternately with twisted wire and ball features alternately & on sides of a flat hollow. 5.08mm wide oval hinged bangle with concealed box clasp and safety chain attached. CONDITION: Excellent Vintage condition showing little or no wear. The stones are all well set and the catch and safety chain are both in. There are no chips, scratches or dents. The piece is stamped 15ct 625. This means it has a gold content of 625 parts per 1000 or 62.5% gold. This was a british Commonwealth standard for high carat, strongly yellow and reasonably hard gold that was used in pieces that had a lot of wear like bracelets and chains that required a high quality gold.
