Are and striking 1880s – 1920s Renaissance Revival Austro Hungarian Necklace. Beautiful whimsical decor of swirls and flowers in Gilt Silver makes a fine frame for three bezel set natural. Stones, one largest cut cabochon and two rounds, two half/Pearls and Old european diamond cut. Settings of gradual diameters used both on the pendant and on the links of the chain. All parts accented with decorations in Green, Black and White Enamels. Hand made in Austria / Hungary or Bohemian. Great example of old Austrian – Hungarian jewelry making School. Most interesting settings are old European cut Moldovites of course, these weird stones were quite commonly used in jewelery making on the territory of the Empire for the natural deposits of that meteoritic glass were located in Austian-Hungarian crown land of Bohemia / former. Marks: the V lock on the necklace marked 835 and with marks of Austrian maker PV – little is unknown to me, but my sales statistics of similar pieces with his marks indicate that he most likely worked in the city of Vienna. Measurements : The Necklace is 43 cm closed. Central oval pendant(without smaller pendant attached to it) is 45 mm x 35 mm x 18mm deep. Smaller pendant is 20 mm x 17 mm x 6 mm. Largest Chrysoprase stone is 15.5 mm x 11.5 x 6 mm / about 7.25 ct. Used Fine condition Minor local enamel losses, very minor wear to Gilding, minor wear to the facets of the Stones. One of 6 Moldavite stones on the pendant was once lost /replaced with round cut green stone, likely Chrysoprase. This necklace is one of a few other strikingly original and decorative Austrian-Hungarian examples in similar styles with various settings that I offer for sale. The Austrian, Hungarian and Czech Bohemian Jewelers created designs in this same style between 1880s – 1930s all beautifully detailed on the front, and often feature equally beautiful detail and whimsical designs on the back. They would very often use semi and precious/natural stones, paste stones(garnet glass), natural pearls and imitations as settings. They constructed these beauties of Silver and gilded them lightly with Gold, often adding parts in solid Gold and further embellishments with Enamels of multiple colors and Pearls.
