Cameo Earrings Brooch Archaeological Revival Set Gold Pearls Victorian (6420)

Antique Victorian Archaelogical Revival boxed set earrings and brooch – enhancer pendant. 14k Gold hardstone cameos and pearls. Made in England circa 1865-80 and retailed by Hunt & Roskell who retailed Guiliano and other maker’s jewelry to the likes of Queen Victoria and her family. See original fitted box. Measurements: Brooch pendant is just over 1 3/8 inch long (35mm); Earrings, excluding wires and pearl drops are 7/8 inch (21mm) long. Combined weight is 22.8 grams. Description : Demi Parure (set) consisting of a brooch that can be worn as a pendant/enhancer and a pair of earrings. Made of oval dark blue-grey hardstone with a layer of white carved away to reveal a beautiful goddess shown in profile. Curling hair with a diadem of laurel leaves shown in miniscule detail. Features are very Classic – see the sculptured mouth, partially open and very Greek. A ring of gold claws holds each cameo in place and it is surrounded by a ring of pearls. A trio of pearls drop from each earring and swing slightly as the wearer moves. Wires of earrings are most likely replacements, typical of jewelry of this period. The set comes in an original fitted Hunt & Roskell box. Hunt & Roskell were a very high end jewelry retailer, by appointment to Her Majesty Queen Victoria and other Royal patrons. The box is leather on the outside, blue silk embossed with gold inside the lid, purple velvet on the padded bottom and has 8 sides. Clasp of box fits and closes well and securely. Cameos are exceptional in quality and appearance. Marks: The brooch has engraved 10 and RU nh on the back. We do not know who/what this refers to. The wires of the earrings have 14k gold hallmarks. I tested the gold of the actual brooch – very strong 14k not 18k (probably 15k). Inside the lid of the box is embossed in gold with a picture of the Royal Crown above Hunt & Roskell Late Storr & Mortimer Jewellers & Goldsmiths to the Queen and Royal Family. 156 New Bond Street. Condition: Good with minor wear/restoration commensurate with age and use. The pin of the brooch was replaced some time in the past. It was detached and our restorer re-attached it. The wires of the earrings are replacements, as mentioned. There are a few border areas of the cameos that have chipped away. These are relatively minor and can be seen in the enlarged pictures. Sculpted faces in good shape. There is a tear in the silk lining of the box (on right of embossed markings). Antique Earrings Necklace Set Gold Pearls Diamonds Classic Revival French #6287

Antique Victorian Napoleon III demi parure set consisting of a pair of earrings and a matching necklace. 18k Gold, pearls and old cut diamonds. Second half of the 19th century with French hallmarks. Measurements: Earrings are approximately 2 3/4 inches (6.5cm) long, not including the wires. Necklace is 14 inches long. Combined weight is 24.8 grams. Description: matching necklace and earrings in the Neo Classic, Revival style of Castellani and Giuliano. Typical of these Neo Etruscan earrings, the component parts feature geometric details, set at angles to each other with fine rope twist filigree work and granulated accents. Long, gradated, gold fringes or tassles ending in golden granulation is also typical of the late Victorian Revival period. The earrings are very long and elegant. The surmounts are squares set at an angle – like a diamond or kite. They have scooped out golden borders surrounded slightly higher centers set with small pearls in the middle. The outer borders have trios of golden granules to soften the edges of the squares. Loops connect the surmounts to the drops which have parallel rows of braided gold filigree chains connecting to larger squares, similarly scooped out, with diamonds in their centers. The diamonds are flat cut on the tops and look to be very old. Hinges connnect scrolling apexes, set in their centers with pearls and with rich, large fringes or tassles at the bottoms. The hinges echo the work of the Ancient Greeks, Romans and Etruscans and allow the curlying bottoms additional movement independant of the squares that support them. The wires of the earrings are replacements, which is typical of earrings of this period and actually makes them easier to insert and wear. The necklace is a mesh chain with a feature echoing that of the earrings in the center. Small pearls add interest on the sides. The loop clasp is clearly a later replacement. Marks: The loops of the earrings have the eagle head mark indicating 18k gold, made in France. The loops of the necklace have owl marks that indicate 18k gold of unknown maker. The loop of the clasp on the necklace has the French eagle head mark for 18k. Very high standard of design and workmanship. The set is understated, elegant and timeless. Suitable for either a collector of fine antique jewelry or the modern miss who is looking for a wonderful look as attractive and complementary today as it was about 150 years ago. Perfect set for a bride. Condition: minor wear commensurate with age. Replaced wires of the earrings and clasp of the necklace, as previously mentioned. Description: This is a stunning 15k yellow gold rhodolite garnet & natural seed pearl demi-parure dating ca. 1870 in its original box. English Victorian, from about the time of the Civil War, this consists of a mesh filigree brooch set with a cluster of clear, reddish-violet garnets, and three larger stones surrounded by natural seed pearls creating dangles at the bottom. The lustrous seed pearls are strung on gold wire & it has its original C-hook clasp. The earrings en suite are smaller versions of the pin, each finishing with a large French wire closure.
